November in My Kitchen: Thanksgiving, Sides & Family Time |
Can you believe Thanksgiving is almost here?
Hey Reader!
Here in South Florida, the weather is still warm enough that I’ve been considering taking Thanksgiving dinner outside this year. Imagine a beautiful outdoor table, delicious food, family gathered around, and hopefully weather that cooperates!
I’m not saying it’s happening, but the idea is definitely on my mind.
And speaking of what’s on my mind this month: sides, sides, and more sides!
I’ve been thinking about Thanksgiving side dishes and all the different ways we can make them flavorful, approachable, and a little easier to prepare. I can’t wait to share more recipes and cooking videos with you.
This Thanksgiving will also be extra special because it’s our baby girl’s first Thanksgiving! So while I have plenty of cooking ideas, I plan to enjoy the holiday with my family instead of spending Thanksgiving Day creating content.
Let’s Get Ready for Thanksgiving!
One thing I learned from working in professional kitchens is that a successful meal starts long before the cooking begins. Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
1. Plan your menu before shopping.
Start with your must-have dishes, then decide where you want to experiment. Don’t forget to check how much oven and refrigerator space you’ll need.
2. Get your ingredients organized.
Check your pantry for spices, flour, broth, oils, and other essentials. Buying shelf-stable ingredients early can save you a stressful shopping trip later.
3. Prep what you can ahead of time.
Chop vegetables, prepare seasoning blends, and make sauces ahead when appropriate. Refrigerate perishable ingredients promptly and follow safe storage guidelines.
4. Don’t forget food safety.
If you’re preparing a frozen turkey, plan for safe thawing time. Refrigerator thawing generally takes about 24 hours for every 4 to 5 pounds. Keep cold foods cold and hot foods hot, especially if you’re considering an outdoor Thanksgiving meal.
Need a Thanksgiving Game Plan?
I’ll be working on more seasonal recipes and videos, especially dishes that can help make Thanksgiving cooking a little easier.
I’ve put together cooking guides to help you organize your holiday meal and bring plenty of flavor to the table.

This Month’s Kitchen Focus: Side Dishes!
I love a good main dish, but Thanksgiving sides deserve their moment. From comforting vegetable dishes, something creamy, something roasted, or a recipe with a little Caribbean influence, side dishes give us so many opportunities to experiment with flavors and techniques.
What’s Your Thanksgiving Cooking Challenge?
Have a cooking question as you prepare for Thanksgiving? Wondering how to keep mashed potatoes creamy, time your side dishes, or substitute an ingredient?
Reply to this email with your question! Tell me what you’re planning to cook and where you’re getting stuck so I can help you work through it.
Send your questions by Thursday, November 19. I may not be able to answer every question before Thanksgiving, but I’ll help where I can. Your questions may also inspire future cooking tips and guides.
Kitchen Tools That Make Holiday Cooking Easier
You don’t need every kitchen gadget to prepare a great Thanksgiving dinner.
But having the right equipment can make a big difference, especially when you’re preparing several dishes at once. I’ll keep sharing kitchen equipment recommendations, cooking tips, and tools I find useful for home cooks.
If you’re planning your holiday shopping or checking what you already own, take a look at my kitchen tool recommendations.

Let’s Talk About What’s Cooking!
One of my favorite things about sharing recipes is hearing what happens when you make them in your own kitchen.
Did you try one of my recipes? Did you make a substitution? Did your family love it? Or did something not go as expected?
I want to hear about it!

Coming Up in December
Once Thanksgiving is behind us, I’ll be shifting my attention toward winter comfort food and holiday cooking.
Think cozy meals, seasonal ingredients, flavorful dishes, and more practical kitchen lessons to help you feel confident experimenting at home.
For now, I’m looking forward to sharing more Thanksgiving inspiration as we prepare to celebrate our little girl’s first Thanksgiving.
And who knows? Maybe we’ll end up eating outside this year!
Wishing you a wonderful November filled with good food, new discoveries, and time with the people you love.
